Five Favorite: Thrifting Tips

If you are new to thrifting, there are some things you need to know before you start. We could probably come up with a lot more, but we have narrowed it down to five very important tips.

1.) When thrift shopping, wear close fitting clothes.
Not all thrift stores have fitting rooms. Sometimes you may have to find a corner and try items on over top of your clothes. Wearing leggings and a tank top makes this easier. Also, wearing skirts or dresses makes it easy to quickly try on bottoms.

2.) Carry a hands-free purse or none at all.
When you are thrifting you don't want to be bothered with holding a purse or fussing with a large bag. If you sit your purse down, someone else might try buy it! Carry a cross body bag or a hip bag (aka fanny pack).

3.) Inspect items thoroughly.
Before purchasing, always check your items for rips and stains. Also make sure you try the zipper and check for missing or damaged buttons. (Note: Don't count out really good items just because of buttons & zippers. These things can be easily changed, if it's worth it to you.)

4.) Clean thrifted items.
It is very important that you clean thrifted items. Clothing should be washed or dry cleaned, depending on the fabric. Earring posts should be clean thoroughly with alcohol. You may even want to change the insoles of thrifted shoes.

5.) Check for sales/discounts. Go on the right day.
Most thrift stores have daily discounts on certain color tags. Also, you should get to know your local stores so you can go on the right day. Some stores have holiday sales and weekly or monthly sales such as 50% off everything on the last Wednesday of each month. Getting thrifted items at a super low price is great because sometimes you'll buy an item to experiment with. If it doesn't work out, at least you didn't spend much on it.

WE HOPE THESE TIPS WERE HELPFUL.
HAPPY THRIFTING!
